Self-Care Starter Actions

Updated: Nov 14, 2020

Keep yourself healthy and happy so you can deal with the craziness of the world today! It’s so important to take some time to yourself, for yourself, so you can take stock of what you are feeling and act on it.

Why is this hard? Well, we are distracted. We have jobs, families, relationships, and/or even guilt or shame about taking the me-time necessary to get clear about what we need to do to keep our lives aligned with our best personal interests.

Here are some quick things you can do to jump-start your refocusing on yourself - many only take a few minutes. Try one today!

Drink your favorite beverage!

TREAT YO SELF! While you are enjoying it, as a bonus, think about why this drink makes you happy.

Take the long way home!

The time you spend and the non-traditional view can give you the time and space you need to reflect and recenter. A few minutes is all it takes.

Write out what you want to do!

You've tried (or thought about trying) one of these above. Now brainstorm what kinds of self-care work best for you!

  1. Spend a few minutes on your own writing three to five personal goals for self-care. Leave at least three lines below each one.

  2. Under each goal, write the following:

  3. Write down when and/or how you will accomplish each goal. For example: Under "I will take a walk three times a week", mark the days in your calendar and then check off each time you walk.

  4. Write why this is important to you for self-care.

  5. Write the name of an accountability partner who you'll share this goal with and can at least ask you periodically if you accomplished your goal (or might participate with you)!

  6. Now share those goals with someone (or more than one person) who you think will take you to task when you ignore these goals.
